Description :   The Unite Theater for Social Action (UTSA) successfully conducted a transformative 2-day Playback Theater Workshop on December 8-9, 2023, in collaboration with Diakonia under the HEART project. The event, held at Mehedibag, brought together 15 aspiring Playback Theater performers eager to enhance their skills and contribute to mental healing within communities. Playback Theater is a unique form of interactive and improvisational performance that facilitates cathartic storytelling and emotional expression. The workshop, aimed at building a skilled Playback Theater team, focused on preparing performers for impactful engagements in community and educational settings. The target audience includes students, adolescents, youth, and women, providing a platform for mental healing and resilience in the face of daily challenges. The workshop delved into advanced levels of Playback Theater, equipping participants with the tools and techniques needed to address a spectrum of daily life experiences, situations, and hazards. Led by the seasoned trainer Obaidul Islam Munna, affiliated with the Bangladesh Therapeutic Theater Institute (BTT), the event was a dynamic blend of theory and hands-on practice. Mr. Munna, a respected figure in the field of therapeutic theatre, guided participants through interactive sessions, scenario-based exercises, and group discussions. The 15 attendees not only gained valuable insights into the art of Playback Theater but also formed a cohesive team ready to bring positive change to diverse communities. The UTSA Playback Theater Workshop aligns with the organization’s commitment to using performing arts as a catalyst for social change. By fostering a team of skilled performers, UTSA aims to create meaningful connections, promote mental well-being, and empower individuals to navigate the challenges of everyday life.
