Title :   Education for Rohingya Refugee Children and Host Community Children in Bangladesh.

Description :   From July 2022 to July 2025, an education-focused initiative was implemented in Teknaf and Ukhiya with support from the International Rescue Committee (IRC). The program aimed to improve access to learning opportunities for children and adolescents by creating safe, inclusive, and supportive educational environments. Activities were carried out in Camps 22, 2E, 15, and 11, as well as in the host communities of Ratnapalong and Palongkhali unions under Ukhiya, reaching a total of 7,299 beneficiaries. The initiative focused on ensuring that children and young people had access to quality education while addressing the diverse needs of vulnerable learners. Parents and caregivers were actively engaged through parenting education sessions, helping them better support their children's learning and development. At the same time, community members—particularly women and persons with disabilities—were encouraged to participate in awareness-raising and community engagement activities that promoted inclusive education. A key component of the program was strengthening the capacity of teachers, especially female educators, through specialized training on inclusive and gender-responsive teaching approaches. Educators received support in areas such as functional literacy, numeracy, mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), child safeguarding, and social-emotional learning (SEL), enabling them to better respond to the academic and emotional needs of learners. The project also introduced pilot initiatives to establish gender-responsive classrooms that fostered participation, safety, and inclusion for all students. Beyond the classroom, the program contributed to strengthening education systems by providing training to government officials and education sector managers on crisis-sensitive and gender-responsive planning, management, and implementation. Through these efforts, the initiative helped build more resilient, equitable, and sustainable education systems while ensuring that children and adolescents could learn and thrive in safe and supportive environments.
