Title : Strengthened and Informed Migration Systems (SIMS).
Description : From January 2021 to December 2023, the Strengthened and Informed Migration Systems (SIMS) project was implemented with support from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and Helvetas. The initiative was carried out across eight upazilas of Chattogram district—Anowara, Boalkhali, Patiya, Chandanaish, Fatikchari, Raozan, Rangunia, and Hathazari—reaching a total of 351,996 beneficiaries. The project aimed to promote safe and informed migration, improve access to justice for migrant workers and their families, and strengthen the financial literacy of left-behind family members. Recognizing the risks associated with irregular migration and limited awareness of migration procedures, the initiative focused on empowering aspiring migrants, returnee migrants, and left-behind family members with the knowledge and skills necessary to make informed decisions. A wide range of awareness and capacity-building activities were conducted, including courtyard sessions, pre-employment orientations, pre-departure orientations, interactive popular theatre (IPT) shows, video screenings, and community outreach campaigns. The project also facilitated the formation of community-based groups and committees that served as local platforms for sharing information, addressing migration-related challenges, and promoting community engagement. Through these interventions, SIMS contributed to increasing awareness of safe migration pathways, strengthening access to justice and support services for migrant communities, and encouraging productive remittance management among migrant households. By fostering informed decision-making and community participation, the project helped create a safer and more supportive migration environment for migrants and their families in the Chattogram region.
